About Dr. Joe Adams
Dr. Joe Adams is the Vice President of Research and Cybersecurity at Merit Network, Inc. Retired from the US Army as a colonel, he taught at the US Military Academy (USMA) as an associate professor and was responsible for USMA’s cyberdefense course. As the Chief Information Officer for National Defense University, Joe built an information assurance program that was recognized by the commanding general of the Defense Information Systems Agency in 2010. In his current position, Joe is focused on leading and expanding Merit’s network research and cybersecurity programs. He is the Director of the Michigan Cyber Range, an internationally recognized platform for education, exercises and testing in cybersecurity.
Joe earned a BSc in computer engineering from Syracuse University and a MSc in computer systems engineering from the University of Arkansas. He earned his PhD in computer engineering from Virginia Tech, where his research focused on network security and access control in mobile ad-hoc networks. He also holds a Master of Strategic Studies from US Army War College.
